Commission Approves SAFE Packages for France and Czech Defense

The European Commission has approved two new national defense plans under the Security Action for Europe (SAFE) initiative, further strengthening the EU's security and readiness. The plans concern France (€15.09 billion) and the Czech Republic (€2.06 billion), following the approval of the first and second waves of funding. The evaluation of the Hungarian plan is ongoing. The Council now has four weeks to approve the implementing decisions, with the first payments expected in April 2026. Cyprus had received approval in the first wave.
