Collaboration for Climate Neutrality: New Development Company Formed

The Municipality of Limassol, in collaboration with six other municipalities in Greece (Athens, Thessaloniki, Ioannina, Kalamata, Kozani, and Trikala), participating in the European Network for Cooperation on Climate Neutrality, has formed a development company. The company's goal is to undertake initiatives to address climate change, improve the quality of life, and create sustainable, resilient, and green cities. The municipalities have already developed “City Climate Pacts,” which have been certified by the European Climate Mission, through processes of participation, corporatism, and consultation. As members of the “European Network of 100 Climate Neutral & Smart Cities,” they aim to drastically reduce CO₂ emissions. The actions promoted include strengthening urban resilience, improving energy efficiency, promoting sustainable mobility, and increasing green spaces. A Board of Directors has already been elected, with the Mayor of Ioannina as President, the Mayor of Kalamata as First Vice President, and the Mayor of Limassol as Second Vice President. In addition, a Management and Coordination Team has been established, with a representative from each municipality, as well as an Audit Committee. The company will send a letter to the European Commission for further cooperation.
