Civil Defence to Re-evaluate and Re-inspect Shelters

The Civil Defence is proceeding with a re-evaluation and re-inspection of shelters across Cyprus, in collaboration with other relevant agencies. Citizens can locate the nearest shelter via the SafeCY application or by calling the Civil Defence Control Centres. It is also recommended that citizens prepare an Emergency Backpack with essentials such as water, food, medicine, and first-aid supplies. In the event of an alarm, maintaining composure and following the instructions of the authorities is crucial. The presence of the Civil Defence in the Akrotiri area continues, given the recent situation. Until a new assessment is made, the Civil Defence remains in the area. The evacuation of the Akrotiri Municipal District remains in effect until March 6th, and schools in the area will remain closed. The number of people being accommodated in various locations, with provision of accommodation and food by the Civil Defence and the Cyprus Red Cross, has increased by approximately 250 people. A test message for precautionary self-protection measures was previously sent via SMS, however, it was not part of the official early warning system. The Deputy Ministry of Research and Innovation will evaluate potential problems with the message delivery and will proceed with corrections, pending the full operation of the new early warning system in June.
