Citizen's Report Leads to Arrests Over Sea Turtle Abuse in Chloraka – "Need for Local Authority Staff Training"

Four employees of the Chloraka Community Council in Paphos have been arrested following a citizen's report and video footage showing them violently throwing and kicking a sea turtle. According to police, the complaint was filed yesterday around 2:30 PM, and the four suspects, aged 58, 47, 27, and 22, were detained for police investigations. A post-mortem examination conducted today revealed the turtle had been dead for approximately 48 hours. The four individuals were formally charged with disturbance and released pending court summons. The Commissioner for the Environment and Animal Welfare emphasized the inappropriateness of the employees' behavior and the local authority's responsibility for managing dead turtles and informing relevant departments, while also highlighting the need for staff training.
