Citizens Left Waiting? Explanation Given Regarding Early Warning Test Message

On Wednesday afternoon, Cyprus awaited a test early warning message, but many citizens did not receive it or received it with a delay. The message was sent as part of preventative measures, in collaboration with telecommunications providers, as announced by the Government Spokesperson. Initially, there were complaints from citizens who did not receive the message at the designated time, while the Ministry of Interior clarified that the first message with self-protection measures was sent successfully and the next ones will not be sent immediately, unless necessary. Relevant sources stated that efforts are being made to improve the delivery of early warning messages, as this is a new process and technical difficulties are expected. They emphasized that timing is crucial and that the system was tested successfully. It was also pointed out that this measure is part of a broader Early Warning System, which is expected to be fully implemented in June 2026. A poll conducted by OmegaLive showed that 56% of participants (764 citizens) did not receive the test message, while 44% (606 citizens) did. Authorities acknowledge the need for improvement and emphasize the importance of testing to achieve maximum system efficiency. The entire process is part of a broader effort to strengthen Cyprus's preparedness for emergency response. The successful implementation of the Early Warning System will contribute to the protection of citizens and the reduction of the impact of natural or man-made disasters.
