Church of Cyprus Proceeds with Procedures for New Bishop of Paphos

The Church of Cyprus is proceeding with the procedures for the election of a new Bishop of Paphos, disregarding the appeal of the former Bishop Tychikos to the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Spokesman for the Holy Archbishopric, Christakis Eustathiou, stated that the issue of Tychikos has been “overcome” and the Church is focusing on the restructuring of the constitutional charter and the election of a successor. The Church of Cyprus does not consider Tychikos’s second appeal as a matter of concern, but as a personal matter of his own. The procedures will move institutionally and in accordance with ecclesiastical provisions, after the restructuring of the constitutional charter. The Supreme Court had rejected Tychikos’s application for an extension of the deadline for filing an application for the issuance of prerogative orders against the decisions of the Holy Synod and the Ecumenical Patriarchate that had declared him deposed. The Church of Cyprus now considers the matter closed and is focusing on the smooth operation of the Metropolis of Paphos and the overall administration of the Church.
