Christodoulides to Bloomberg: Proposes Coalition of the Willing for Plan to De-escalate War with Iran

The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, in an interview with Bloomberg TV, emphasized the importance of de-escalating the crisis in the Middle East and proposed the creation of a “coalition of the willing” to present a de-escalation plan, coordinated by the EU, countries in the region, and the United States. He warned of the serious consequences if de-escalation does not occur. President Christodoulides also referred to relations with the United Kingdom and the British Bases in Cyprus, emphasizing the need for dialogue. Regarding the possibility of Cyprus joining NATO, he stated that it would be ready to apply if feasible, but this is not currently possible. He noted that Cyprus, due to its geographical location and diplomatic relations, can offer a significant perspective to the EU on the situation in the Middle East. He expressed satisfaction with the solidarity shown by the EU and referred to the activation of Article 42.7 of the EU Treaty. President Christodoulides called on the EU to play an active role in the region and present a diplomatic initiative to achieve a ceasefire, with the participation of all parties involved.
