CHP: Patriots in Karpathos 'Undermine the Non-Military Status of the Islands'

The CHP's Vice President, Yanki Baycioglu, criticized the deployment of a Patriot air defense system to Karpathos, arguing that it violates the demilitarized regime that, according to the Turkish side, applies to certain Aegean islands. Baycioglu referred to the Treaty of Paris of 1947, which Turkey claims stipulates that these islands should not be militarized. He warned of potential impacts on the security balance in the region and called for the issue to be discussed at a diplomatic level and in talks on Confidence-Building Measures. Turkey reserves its rights and demands the removal of military systems from Karpathos, considering the deployment contrary to international law.
