Chapels Revived in Remote Corners of Paphos

Chapels in remote areas of the Paphos province are being revived thanks to initiatives by private individuals and citizens. These small places of worship, which had been neglected and dilapidated, are now being restored and reopened, attracting pilgrims and visitors, especially during the Christmas holidays. A prime example is the restoration of the Church of Agios Sōzōn in Asprogia, an initiative of educator Nikos Opsimos. Saint Sōzōn was a child martyr who died in the area in the 7th century. Simultaneously, the oldest monastery in the province, Panagia Chrysokourna in Steni, dating back to the 12th century, has also been restored. These restorations contribute to the promotion of tradition, culture, and the natural beauty of the Paphos countryside.
