Changes Sought by Trade Unions in Minimum Wage Decree

Published January 5, 2026, 21:05

Trade unions SEK, PEO, and DEOK are requesting a meeting with the President of the Republic, along with the relevant Minister, to discuss four labor issues. At the top of their demands is the revision of the minimum wage decree, with emphasis on hourly compensation and the incorporation of minimum wages into collective bargaining agreements. The trade unions are seeking the implementation of previous government commitments, while also requesting the extension of collective bargaining agreements and their linkage to public contracts, a review of the strategy for employing workers from third countries, and the implementation of the 'Ergani 2' software. Employers, through the OEB, have expressed strong concern and warned of chaos in labor relations in the event of a revision of the minimum wage decree. They believe that any change will lead to unfair competition and undermine the stability of the labor market. AKEL has also addressed the issue, calling on the government to reconsider its decisions regarding the minimum wage and to take into account the concerns of workers and trade unions. The dispute is expected to continue, as both sides remain firm in their positions.
