Changes Proposed for Scooter Use in Greece – Ministry Prefers German Model

The Ministry of Transport proposes changes to the use of electric scooters and bicycles, with the aim of addressing reckless and dangerous use. The German model of scooter labeling is favored over the creation of a registry, in order to avoid costs and bureaucracy. Proposed changes include raising the minimum age of use from 14 to 16 years, impounding scooters in case of violations, strengthening specifications, and limiting maximum speed to 20-25 km/h. Regarding insurance coverage, it is proposed that insurance companies issue markings for scooters that comply with the law’s specifications, with potential civil liability insurance of up to €100,000.
