At least fifteen people have died and 30 were injured in a crash of a Bolivian Air Force C-130 Hercules transport aircraft near the capital La Paz. The aircraft, which was carrying banknotes, ran off the runway and crashed into cars. Authorities report that the number of injured exceeds 20. Hospitals in El Alto have appealed for blood donations. The Bolivian civil aviation authority announced that the aircraft had departed from Santa Cruz. Bad weather prevailed at the time of the accident, with hail and lightning. Banknotes were scattered in the area and police intervened to prevent the crowd from collecting them, using tear gas. The Ministry of Defense clarified that the banknotes have no legal value and their possession is illegal. The prosecutor's office reported looting in stores in the area and made arrests.
