Businessmen on Trial for Interfering with Court Proceedings in Larnaca

Two businessmen who were arrested for interfering with court proceedings related to the recent shooting in Larnaca have been released on restrictive terms. The charges against them include interfering with court proceedings, illegal possession of property, and conspiracy to commit a felony. As bail for their release, they were asked to pay 80,000 euros and were subject to travel bans, as well as the obligation to report to a police station twice a week. According to the case, the businessmen allegedly met with the owner of the shop in front of which the shooting took place, offering him money for “protection.” They denied any involvement in the incident and proposed a partnership in a business. The shop owner had previously requested protection from one of the businessmen after an attempted murder. The investigation focuses on information and testimonies from the shop owner, who claims he was pressured to provide specific information in order to mislead the police. The businessmen categorically deny the charges, while their lawyer raised questions about a possible friendly relationship between the investigator and the defendants. Meanwhile, six people, five foreigners and one Cypriot, who are considered the core of the group, are in custody for the shooting. Three more foreigners are also wanted.
