British Warship HMS Dragon to Deploy to Cyprus Next Week, US Aircraft Expected

The British warship HMS Dragon will begin its journey to Cyprus next week, after completing the loading of ammunition at the port of Portsmouth. The delay in departure is not due to financial reasons, according to British sources. Before the arrival of HMS Dragon, two Wildcat helicopters will be sent to Cyprus. At the same time, the arrival of US military aircraft at British bases is expected in the coming days, to begin missions in Iran. The US has not yet used RAF Fairford or Diego Garcia bases after the British Prime Minister's approval for defensive missions from these facilities. The HMS Dragon is a Type 45 destroyer with multiple mission capabilities, including air defense, humanitarian aid and drug trafficking. It has a crew of over 200 and advanced target detection and engagement systems. The ship has a displacement of 8,000 tons and is equipped with Sea Viper missiles and SAMPSON radar. The HMS Dragon has participated in missions in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf, mainly for surveillance and protection of commercial sea routes. Its deployment to Cyprus is part of British efforts to prevent escalation of tensions in the region.
