British Base Employees Demand Teleworking Amidst Regional Tensions

Employees of the British Bases in Cyprus are demanding the immediate implementation of teleworking due to rising tensions in the region. PASYDY, through a letter to Stephen B Dougan, Deputy Command Secretary, SBAA, points out that while personnel at the Akrotiri base have been ordered to evacuate, personnel at the Episkopi, Dhekelia and Agios Nikolaos bases remain in uncertainty and anxiety. PASYDY emphasizes that the protection of the life and safety of employees must be the top priority and that continuing to work within the facilities under increased risks is unacceptable. They are calling for the immediate implementation of teleworking protocols for all personnel whose work can be performed remotely. The letter refers to the volatile situation in the region and the escalating military conflicts, emphasizing the need for preventive measures. PASYDY stresses that taking such measures would demonstrate responsible leadership and a commitment to protecting the workforce. PASYDY states that the Administration of the British Bases should seriously assess the situation and immediately implement teleworking protocols where possible, in order to ensure the safety of personnel.
