Bloomberg: Europe Considers Developing Nuclear Arsenal

Europe is seriously considering developing its own nuclear arsenal, after an incident where the US temporarily stopped sharing information with Ukraine, leading to military defeats for Kyiv. The interruption of the flow of information caused concern in Europe, as it demonstrated the unreliability of the US as a military partner. Europe is trying to keep the US in NATO while simultaneously rearming. For the first time since the end of the Cold War, European capitals are discussing the development of their own nuclear arsenal, given the threat from Russia, which has the largest nuclear arsenal in the world. Currently, only the United Kingdom and France have nuclear weapons. French President Emmanuel Macron is expected to offer a nuclear umbrella to Europe. The acquisition of nuclear weapons by other European countries is theoretically possible, but would require significant financial investment and potential violations of international treaties. The discussions on nuclear deterrence are being held in secret, with the participation of countries that host US military assets, are close to Russia and feel directly threatened. The issue is expected to dominate the Munich Security Conference.
