Σύμφωνα με δημοσίευμα του λιβανέζικου μέσου Beirut Time, ο Διευθυντής της Κυπριακής Υπηρεσίας Πληροφοριών, Τάσος Τζιωνής, φέρεται να προχώρησε σε επαφές με ηγεσία πολιτικής οργάνωσης στον Λίβανο, ζητώντας τη διαμεσολάβηση για την αποστολή «καθησυχαστικού μηνύματος» προς το Ιράν.
Όπως αναφέρεται, το μήνυμα αφορούσε τη διαβεβαίωση ότι δεν θα επιτραπεί η χρήση της Βρετανικής Βάσης στο Ακρωτήρι για επιθετικές ενέργειες εναντίον της Τεχεράνης. Κατά τις ίδιες πληροφορίες, η κυπριακή πλευρά φέρεται να ζήτησε τη συνδρομή της συγκεκριμένης πολιτικής οργάνωσης λόγω των καλών σχέσεων που διατηρεί με το Ιράν, καθώς η Κυπριακή Δημοκρατία δεν διαθέτει απευθείας διαύλους επικοινωνίας.
Το δημοσίευμα υποστηρίζει ακόμη ότι στόχος της πρωτοβουλίας είναι η αποτροπή επέκτασης της έντασης προς την Κύπρο, σε μια περίοδο αυξημένης γεωπολιτικής αστάθειας στην Ανατολική Μεσόγειο.
Παράλληλα, γίνεται αναφορά σε ανησυχίες για πιθανές επιπτώσεις στην κυπριακή οικονομία, με έμφαση στον κίνδυνο αποχώρησης ξένων επενδύσεων, ιδίως ισραηλινών, ρωσικών και κινεζικών, σε περίπτωση περαιτέρω κλιμάκωσης.
