Trump Rejected Netanyahu's Call for Uprising in Iran: Axios

According to an Axios report, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attempted to persuade former US President Donald Trump to call on Iranians to revolt against their regime, believing the conditions were not ripe for such a move. Netanyahu pushed for the destabilization of the Iranian regime as a central goal, through the creation of conditions for popular demonstrations, while the US government viewed it as a potential “side benefit.” Trump expressed reservations, warning that such a call could lead to casualties, as the Revolutionary Guards could violently suppress the demonstrations. Ultimately, it was decided to monitor the situation during the Nowruz celebrations, but the limited participation in the demonstrations reinforced the assessment that fear remains strong. Meanwhile, Israel intensified its operations against Iranian officials, assassinating Ali Larijani and the commander of the Basij forces, Gholam Reza Soleimani, with the aim of weakening security systems in anticipation of potential demonstrations. Netanyahu believed that the Iranian regime was in a state of “chaos” and proposed a joint statement calling on Iranians to take to the streets. However, Trump rejected the proposal, expressing fears of casualties. The difference of opinion between the two leaders highlights their different approaches to dealing with Iran, with Netanyahu seeking immediate destabilization and Trump preferring a more cautious stance.
