Australia: Surfer Injured in Shark Attack - Third Incident in Two Days

A surfer was seriously injured in a shark attack on a Sydney, Australia beach, marking the third incident in the city within two days. The 20-year-old man was taken to hospital in critical condition with severe leg injuries. Hours earlier, a shark had damaged the surfboard of a 10-year-old boy, without injuring him. Yesterday, a 12-year-old boy was also seriously injured by a shark while swimming in Sydney Harbour. Authorities have closed all beaches in northern Sydney. According to databases, over 1,280 shark attacks have been recorded in Australia since 1791, with at least 250 being fatal. Scientists believe the increase in attacks may be due to the rise in swimmers, rising ocean temperatures, and overfishing.
