At Least 25 Injured in 6.0 Magnitude Earthquake in Peru

An earthquake of magnitude 6.0 struck the Ancash region of Peru, causing at least 25 injuries. The earthquake occurred on Saturday night and was felt as far away as the capital, Lima. Authorities report that 12 injured people are hospitalized, while 13 have been discharged. In the city of Chimbote, the general hospital, schools, and homes sustained damage. Videos circulating on social media show buildings with cracks and goods scattered on store floors. Peru is located in a highly seismic area, known as the 'Pacific Ring of Fire,' and has experienced devastating earthquakes in the past, such as the 1970 earthquake that resulted in 67,000 deaths.
