ASTEPAHK Disagrees with AHΚ Staff's Two-Hour Work Stoppage

The Independent Trade Union of Technical and Labor Personnel of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (ASTEPAHK) has expressed its disagreement with the decision of other unions to hold a two-hour work stoppage, regarding the involvement of ATIK in the energy sector. ASTEPAHK believes that the work stoppage is premature, as the dialogue on the issue is ongoing and has not been exhausted. It points out that taking measures creates false impressions, implying that employees are unwilling to discuss finding a solution for the benefit of society and the EAC. ASTEPAHK stands for continuing the dialogue with the management of the EAC, the government and the trade union movement, aiming to find the best possible solution. It believes that the right to strike should only be used when all other dialogue options have been exhausted and if the results of the dialogue are deemed harmful to the EAC. The union recalls its consistent position on allowing the EAC to modernize so that it can provide cheaper and cleaner electricity to consumers. It calls on the other unions to abandon the attempt to appear as exclusive representatives of the employees and to cooperate to achieve a collective solution. ASTEPAHK states its willingness for honest and constructive dialogue with all stakeholders, aiming to find a mutually acceptable solution to the issue that concerns the EAC and Cypriot society.
