Argentina: Raging Wildfires in Patagonia Force Thousands to Evacuate

Uncontrollable wildfires are raging in Patagonia, Argentina, forcing more than 3,000 tourists to evacuate the area. The flames are spreading rapidly due to drought and strong winds, destroying approximately 2,000 hectares of forest and agricultural land. Authorities have mobilized more than 350 firefighters and volunteers, using ground and air resources to combat the fires. The situation is described as critical, with flames approaching populated areas and causing panic among people. The fire started on Monday and quickly expanded in the 'Comarca Andina' region, in the heart of the Andes. Drought and strong winds are hindering firefighting efforts, while thick smoke clouds are reducing visibility. This fire is the first large-scale one in Argentina for 2026, following the devastating fires of the previous year that caused significant damage and one death. The National Fire Management System has issued a 'red alert' for eight provinces, warning of extremely high fire risk.
