AOC and Paris Hilton 'Declare War' on AI Deepfake Pornography

Paris Hilton and Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are joining forces to combat AI-generated deepfake pornography. Hilton traveled to the Capitol on Thursday to advocate for the Disrupt Explicit Forged Images and Non-Consensual Edits Act (DEFIANCE Act), which would create a private right of action for victims of such images, allowing them to sue creators and distributors. Ocasio-Cortez emphasized that the harm caused by these images is real, with victims losing jobs, facing harassment, and experiencing psychological consequences. Hilton shared her personal experience, when a video of hers went viral online when she was 19, highlighting the lack of legal protection at the time. This initiative comes amid growing concerns about the use of artificial intelligence to create sexualized material, even involving minors, as revealed by Elon Musk's Grok chatbot. Ocasio-Cortez accused social media companies of inaction and called for the passage of the DEFIANCE Act to bring justice to victims. The bill aims to circumvent the protection afforded to social media companies by Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act of 1996, allowing for legal liability for illegal content shared on their platforms.
