Another 50,000 Doses Received from the EU – Animal Culling Continues

Vaccinations against foot-and-mouth disease continue in Cyprus, with the delivery of an additional 50,000 doses of vaccine from the EU. The first 10,000 doses have already been received and used, while sampling continues in the surveillance areas. The government is preparing a support package for farmers of the affected units. At the same time, the culling of animals in infected units continues, with the cooperation of relevant services for their safe burial. Specific burial sites have been determined, complying with environmental standards. The implementation strategy for vaccination has been determined after a meeting of experts and veterinarians, starting with cattle units in Aradippou. Private veterinarians have responded quickly to the effort. In addition, the number of spray control points in the area has increased, while wheel washes at livestock farms continue, with costs covered by the Department of Agriculture.
