Anitta: "Resignations are correct and useful" - Action plan after the scandal with the corruption video in the Presidential Palace

The President of the House of Representatives, Annita Demetriou, described the resignations of the First Lady from the Independent Social Support Organization and the Director of the President's Office as correct and useful. Ms. Demetriou stressed that the video that came to light damages the credibility and reputation of Cyprus, especially during its presidency of the European Union. She also emphasized that the motives of the video's creators are foreign and malicious and must be fully investigated. Ms. Demetriou proposed a three-pronged action plan to address the situation. The first step is to take responsibility with specific policy decisions and initiatives that will demonstrate the absence of a cover-up and eliminate any suspicion of corruption. The second is to conduct a full and independent investigation by the Attorney General for possible violations of legislation. The third concerns changes to the Fund of the Organization, either through radical changes and transparency, or through its complete abolition and finding alternative ways to support students. Ms. Demetriou called on all institutions to move in the same direction, in order to restore public trust and safeguard the country's reputation. She noted that changing what bothers us is essential to support Cyprus and uphold the principles of transparency, control and accountability. The statement by the President of the House of Representatives demonstrates the seriousness of the situation and the need for immediate and effective action. The emphasis on independent investigation and accountability underscores the effort to restore public confidence and strengthen transparency in the management of public funds.
