Animal Abuse Cases on the Rise: Reports of Cats Being Shot (IMAGES)

New cases of animal abuse in Larnaca and Paphos are causing great concern and revulsion. In Larnaca, a cat was shot with an airgun in a residential area, while in Paphos, two cats were found shot, with one being euthanized. The Movement of Ecologists – Citizens’ Cooperation denounces the inadequate response of the Police to the initial reports and points out the risk to public safety from uncontrolled gun ownership. The Movement of Ecologists emphasizes that these incidents are not isolated but part of a recurring and worrying phenomenon. They call for an immediate investigation of the cases, full application of the law, and strict penalties for the perpetrators. They point out that impunity breeds violence and that society cannot accept animal abuse. Following communication between the Movement of Ecologists and the Police, the complainants in Paphos will visit the Central Police Station to file a report. The Movement of Ecologists welcomes the development, but stresses that the initial handling of the case was not as expected. The Movement of Ecologists calls on the State to review the issue of gun ownership and take measures to protect animals and ensure public safety.
