Amazon to Cut 16,000 Jobs Globally Amid AI Focus

Amazon has announced the cutting of 16,000 jobs globally, as it focuses its efforts on artificial intelligence. The company stated that it will strive to support employees affected by the cuts and will offer new positions where possible. These reductions follow previous layoffs of 14,000 employees in late October. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy had previously announced the reduction of payroll costs, as the company invests heavily in artificial intelligence. According to Jassy, the development of AI will lead to a reduction in office staff in the coming years. Vice President and Head of Human Resources and Technology, Beth Galetti, emphasized that the cuts are a step to strengthen the organization and increase accountability. Amazon will continue to hire and invest in strategic areas that are essential for its future. Since 2021, Andy Jassy's tenure has been marked by significant layoffs, with a total of 27,000 employees laid off since the winter of 2022-2023.
