Alert Over Suspicious Object Prompts Greek F-16s to Scramble

An alert was triggered in Cyprus on Wednesday morning (March 4th) following reports of a suspicious object heading towards the island. The US Embassy in Nicosia was put on alert, and staff were moved to the basement as a precaution. In response, two Greek F16s scrambled from the Paphos airbase for reconnaissance and to address the suspicious object. After completing their mission, the fighter jets returned to base. The alert was lifted shortly before 10:00 AM, and embassy staff resumed their duties. Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis confirmed that a potential suspicious object was detected near Lebanon and all necessary measures were taken. Cypriot airspace remained open, although some flights were temporarily delayed. The Cabinet meeting was postponed, and an emergency meeting of the National Security Council was scheduled.
