Alarming Decline in Flamingo Population at Akrotiri Salt Lake: Pollution and Development Blamed

Serious ecological degradation is being recorded at the Akrotiri Salt Lake and Makri Lake, with a dramatic decrease in the flamingo population. While the area previously hosted up to 13,000 flamingos, today there are only 47. The situation is worsening due to a lack of coordination between responsible parties, illegal dumping, and uncontrolled development. Furthermore, sewage is being reported to be dumped into the sea, endangering public health. Parliament is being called upon to take measures to protect this important wetland.
