AKEL General Secretary: Cyprus Must Be a Bridge of Peace, Not a Part of Wars

The General Secretary of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou, emphasized that Cyprus must play a role as a bridge of peace and cooperation, avoiding involvement in military conflicts and being turned into a launching pad for military operations. Speaking at an event honoring the Resistance fighters, he stated that Cyprus has paid a heavy price from war, occupation, and geopolitical conflicts. Mr. Stefanou called for highlighting the historical truth regarding the events of 1974, emphasizing that nationalism and intolerance led to disaster. He expressed the need to restart negotiations from where they were interrupted in 2017, utilizing the Guterres Framework, and warned of the dangers stemming from the presence of British bases and the policies of violating international law by the US.
