AKEL Demands Explanations and Suspensions Over TNT Theft from NGA

AKEL expressed its concern over the theft of 13 kilograms of TNT explosives from the Kallou Chori firing range, pointing out the lack of information regarding the case eleven days after the incident. The party questions the objectivity of the investigation, given that a person from the leadership of the National Guard has been appointed to conduct it. AKEL emphasizes that the Minister of Defense has reported possible disciplinary offenses due to lack of supervision of the material and calls for the suspension of NGA personnel until the investigation is completed. In addition, it states that the case reveals problems of understaffing and lack of training of the National Guard personnel. AKEL expresses fears that the explosives may have fallen into the hands of the underworld, which increases the sense of insecurity in society. The party demands the immediate and complete investigation of the case and the assumption of responsibility by those responsible. AKEL calls on the Ministry of Defense to answer specific questions regarding the investigation and the measures being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
