AKEL Criticizes Government Over Rising Debt to Social Insurance Fund

AKEL is strongly criticizing the Christodoulides government for increasing public debt to the Social Insurance Fund (SIF), which has reached €13 billion. AKEL argues that the government, while trying to present improved fiscal indicators, has increased borrowing from the SIF by more than €2 billion in the last three years. Furthermore, AKEL emphasizes that a golden opportunity is being lost to create a reserve within the SIF, due to the good economic situation and increased contributions. The creation of a reserve could be used to strengthen pensions and address social needs. PEΟ also expresses concerns about the state's debt to the SIF and the lack of a plan to create a reserve.
