Agreement Signed for New 54 Affordable Housing Units in Strovolos

An agreement was signed between the Ministry of Interior and the Cyprus Land Development Organization (CLDO) for the provision of additional funding of €12 million. This funding will be used for the construction of 54 two-bedroom apartments in the Municipality of Strovolos, which will be allocated to eligible beneficiaries of affordable housing. The agreement is part of the state's integrated housing policy, with an emphasis on increasing the housing stock and producing affordable homes. The Christodoulides government has upgraded the role of the CLDO, assigning it executive powers to implement housing plans. In addition to the project in Strovolos, an affordable housing project in Limassol is already under construction, with a state contribution of €16 million. Furthermore, the start of construction of another 258 affordable housing units is planned, as part of the broader effort to address the housing problem in Cyprus. The government is seeking financial strengthening of the CLDO, so that it can implement its development plan and contribute to mitigating the housing problem, which particularly affects low and middle-income households.
