Adjournment of German Real Estate Agent's Bail Request Due to Insurance Communication Issue

The hearing of the case regarding the usurpation of Greek Cypriot properties in the occupied territories, against a German real estate agent, continued at the Nicosia Criminal Court. During the hearing, a cross-examination of a witness from the defense took place, who was a specialist in land registry and surveying. The defense focused on discrepancies in topographic maps, while the witness explained that the Land Registry has no access to the occupied territories and uses old plans. A significant issue that arose was the defense's request for a written translation of the testimonies into German, citing a relevant European directive and a request from the German embassy. The Prosecution objected, arguing that there is no legal obligation to translate every testimony, given the availability of oral interpretation. The Court rejected the defense's request for translation, characterizing it as vague and delayed. It was pointed out that instructions had been given to arrange meetings with a translator, but the defense had not followed the procedure of timely notification. At the same time, the examination of the request for the release of the accused was postponed due to an impediment in communication between the defense and the insurance company for the settlement of the guarantee. The case will continue on a later date.
