ACI Europe Calls for European Aviation Strategy to Reduce Air Ticket Prices

ACI Europe CEO, Oliver Jankovec, is calling for the development of a European aviation strategy aimed at increasing capacity and reducing air ticket prices. He points out that capacity constraints and investment delays are hindering growth and service quality. Decarbonizing the industry is the biggest challenge and requires significant resources and a stable European support framework. Cyprus ranks third in Europe in terms of recovery in air connectivity compared to 2019, with an 8% increase and a projected 13% increase in 2025. This is due to supportive policies for aviation, in contrast to other countries where connectivity remains below pre-pandemic levels. Jankovec emphasizes that air connectivity is vital for the economic survival and international competitiveness of countries like Cyprus. Cyprus's recovery is impressive, given the fragmented market dynamics and structural changes observed. ACI Europe highlights that the development of airports is directly linked to economic prosperity, investment, and social cohesion. The implementation of a new European aviation strategy, combining environmental sustainability with growth and investment, is essential to address the challenges and capitalize on the opportunities.
