"A Thousand Hands": The Story Behind the Play

The new play "A Thousand Hands", being staged at the Experimental Stage of the National Theatre of Cyprus (THOC), explores the life and work of Yannoulis Halepas. The playwright, initially hesitant due to the artist's silence and the abundance of existing works, focused on the alternative language Halepas developed through his sculpture, transforming his experiences into mythological forms. The play attempts to highlight the reconstruction of the events of Halepas's life as mosaics of his psyche, focusing on his obsessive relationship with the figure of the Satyr as a symbol of his fate. The direction of Fotis Nikolaou is expected to emphasize the choreography and the metaphysical dimension of the work.
