A Centuries-Old and… Smart Oak Tree in Fyti

Tourist authorities in the Paphos district are continuing efforts to upgrade the tourist experience and implement actions that will contribute to transforming the province into a smart destination. A key component of this policy in recent years has been the digitization of information and the use of smart signs at monuments and other points of interest throughout the province. Of particular importance is the installation, about a year ago, of a smart sign on a natural monument over 500 years old: the ancient oak tree in the community of Fyti. At this impressive natural monument, numerous visitors to the community can now, after initially scanning the QR code, select their preferred language from the smart device, while being offered a wide range of information options. In this specific case, information about the centuries-old oak tree, forest protection, the benefits of trees for humans and nature, the life cycle of trees, as well as rich photographic and video material. In addition to this specific monument, the fifth phase of the installation of smart signs has been completed in the last two years, including 23 such signs in various areas and points of interest in Paphos, such as in Geroskipou, Akamas, Chloraka, Choli, Salamiou, Simou and Drouseia, while the next phase with more than 18 locations where this digital upgrade will be implemented is already underway.
