The President of DIPA, Marios Karoyian, presented a package of six plus two proposed laws aimed at addressing the issue of foreclosures in Cyprus. The party's primary priority is the protection of primary residences, considering it fundamental for social cohesion and human dignity. Mr. Karoyian emphasized that foreclosures constitute a serious social and economic problem, impacting lives and families. DIPA's proposals include a temporary suspension of foreclosures for homes valued up to €350,000, strengthening the role of the Financial Commissioner with binding decisions for disputes up to €50,000, mandatory application of the Central Bank's Code of Conduct, refinancing of primary residences based on actual income, and the reinstatement of the 'Rent-to-Own' scheme. The goal is to create a fair and functional framework to protect borrowers and prevent social tragedies.
