62 Years of UNFICYP: The Three Months That Lasted a Lifetime

March 4th marked 62 years since the UN Security Council decided to establish the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP). This decision, initially for three months, was taken after the Turkish uprising and the events of 1963, and determined the continuation of the Republic of Cyprus during a period of challenge from Turkey. Resolution 186/1964, a cornerstone for the Republic of Cyprus, continues to be a target of Turkish opposition.
