“5-star”: The Absent Body, the Lingering Landscape in PASHIAS’s Live Performance

The “Fluid Persistence” exhibition at the Nicosia Municipal Arts Centre (NiMAC) features PASHIAS’s work, “5-star,” a live performance exploring the relationship between the body, water, memory, and social tensions. The 120-minute work is characterized by the artist’s immobility, functioning as both a vessel and a landscape, while the surrounding towels symbolize prosperity, loss, and tourism. PASHIAS’s work connects to his previous creations, such as the “KUZA” performance and the “Oops! I broke the sun” exhibition, where the vessel was a central motif. The exhibition attracted a large audience, and the work’s sparse but charged visual language invites reflection on identity, social position, and the experience of time. The use of color enhances the visual narrative, creating a condensed vocabulary of landscape and body.
