31 Hikers Rescued from Avakas Gorge in Cyprus

Two separate rescue operations were carried out yesterday in the Avakas Gorge in Paphos, as 31 people became trapped due to rising water levels. The first operation involved 26 people who were found inside the river and rescued by the Peyia Rural Fire Station using ropes and life vests. A few hours later, five more people were rescued, three of whom were found in the water and the other two managed to get out on their own. All those trapped are in good health. The incident highlights the dangers of hiking in gorges during periods of rainfall and the need for caution and awareness of weather conditions.
