30-Year-Old T/C Caught with 100kg of Peppers in Agios Sozomenos

Members of the Anti-Poaching and Green Line Monitoring Unit of the Police discovered a 30-year-old Turkish Cypriot crossing from the occupied areas through an unauthorized crossing point in the Agios Sozomenos area. During the inspection of his double-cab vehicle, it was found that he was transporting 100 kg of green peppers of unknown origin. The vehicle and goods were seized by the Customs Department for violating the Green Line Regulation (illegal crossing and transport of goods without the required formalities). The driver was released after paying an out-of-court settlement of €2,500 (€2,000 for the violation and €500 for the return of the vehicle). The vehicle and goods remain temporarily at the Pera Chorio Police Station for disinfection, while the peppers will be collected by the Customs Department for destruction. The case concerns the illegal import of goods from the occupied areas.
