219,919 Units in 20,919 Co-owned Buildings – Golden Section and Regulation of Anarchy Sought in Parliament Today

According to data from the Land Registry, the new legislation on the management of co-owned buildings affects 219,635 residential units in 20,919 buildings across Cyprus. Of these, 159,659 units are in registered and 59,976 in unregistered co-owned buildings. Nicosia has the largest number of co-owned buildings (7,224) and residential units (73,241), while Larnaca has the fewest (898 and 9,895 respectively). The Real Estate Development Organizations (REDOs) express concerns about taking over the management of these buildings, as this will require additional staff and resources. The Ministry of Interior had assigned the management responsibility to the REDOs without prior consultation, which caused reactions. Following meetings, the REDOs requested a study to assess the feasibility of taking over the responsibility and estimate the operating costs of the relevant service.
