17-Year-Old Murder in Serres: Accused Teenager Has Been on Authorities' Radar Since Age 13

The 16-year-old accused of the murder of a 17-year-old in Serres had been involved with authorities since the age of 13 due to involvement in drug and theft cases. He had previously faced detentions, arrests, and corrective measures, and there had been an attempt to remove custody from his mother, which ultimately failed. The accused confessed to his involvement in the incident, which reportedly stemmed from a message sent to a girl he is connected with. The 17-year-old was struck in the face by the 16-year-old while with his friends outside a gambling store. After the assault, the 17-year-old asked his friends to accompany him home, but he went down to a basement area of his apartment building where he was found unconscious. While the 17-year-old's father was reporting his son missing to the police, his siblings discovered him in the basement. Immediate transfer to the hospital was unsuccessful in saving his life. A forensic examination is underway to determine the exact cause of death. In addition to the 16-year-old, the teenager's mother was also arrested for neglecting the supervision of a minor. The case has shocked the local community and raises questions about the effectiveness of the measures previously taken for the 16-year-old.
