March 14th, 1956: The Murder of the 7-Year-Old 'Louloudas' of EOKA

March 14th is a date of particular significance in Cypriot history, marking the murder of 7-year-old Dimitrakis Dimitriades, known as the 'Louloudas' (Flower) of EOKA, by British colonialists in 1956. The young Dimitrakis, a second-grade student, was killed during a demonstration in Larnaca while selling flowers to help his family. His murder shocked Cyprus and became a symbol of resistance against British rule. A song was written in his honor, with music by Giorgos Theofanous and lyrics by Klairi Angelidou, and was included in the album “CHOES”. The story of Dimitrakis Dimitriades remains alive in the collective memory of the Cypriot people, as a reminder of the struggle for freedom and independence.
