13-Year Prison Sentence for Man Convicted of Sexual Assaults

A Permanent Criminal Court in Famagusta sentenced a 51-year-old man to 13 years in prison for a series of serious sexual offenses against a 26-year-old foreign woman, committed between July and September 2023 in Ayia Napa and Paralimni. The defendant was found guilty of 15 out of the 16 charges he faced, including eight counts of rape, as well as sexual assault with indecent assault, threats, and harassing stalking. The court emphasized the severity of the offenses and the systematic nature of the defendant's behavior, taking into account Cypriot and English case law for similar offenses. The sentence was imposed after a lengthy trial and includes concurrent prison sentences, with a maximum sentence of 13 years for the rape charges. The defendant had previous convictions for other offenses, but not of a sexual nature.
