12-Year Sentence Upheld for Child Sexual Abuse Convict

The Cyprus Court of Appeal has dismissed the appeal of A.A., upholding his conviction for six counts of child sexual abuse. The prison sentences imposed by the lower court, totaling twelve years for three counts and ten years for another three, remain in effect. The Court of Appeal's decision was based on the finding that the minor's testimony was absolutely credible, despite some contradictions that were deemed natural. The court emphasized that no error was found in the original decision to justify its reversal. The defendant had attempted to challenge the credibility of the minor, arguing that there were contradictions in her statements. He also cited the failure to investigate DNA evidence and the possibility that her testimony was motivated or guided. However, the Court of Appeal rejected all of these claims. The case involved unlawful intercourse with the minor on various occasions between April 2020 and September 2021, with the defendant exploiting the position of trust he held. The Court of Appeal's decision sends a strong message against child sexual abuse and reaffirms the justice system's commitment to protecting minors.
