Ποινή φυλάκισης 12 χρόνων επέβαλε το Μόνιμο Κακουργιοδικείο Λάρνακας σε 35χρονο από τις ΗΠΑ, για υπόθεση εισαγωγής 18 κιλών κάνναβης.
Ο 35χρονος κρίθηκε ένοχος κατόπιν δικής του παραδοχής σε κατηγορίες εισαγωγής και προμήθειας ναρκωτικών σε άλλα άτομα, καθώς και πλαστοπροσωπίας.
Τα ναρκωτικά, 30 συσκευασίες με κάνναβη, βάρους περίπου 18 κιλών, εντοπίστηκαν σε κιβώτιο που έφθασε στις 19 Μαΐου 2025, σε ιδιωτική εταιρεία στη Λάρνακα, θέτοντας την Υπηρεσία Καταπολέμησης Ναρκωτικών σε συναγερμό.
Ο κατηγορούμενος φαινόταν ως ο παραλήπτης των ναρκωτικών και κλήθηκε να τα παραλάβει.
Το κιβώτιο τού παραδόθηκε στις 25 Μαΐου και όταν το παρέλαβε επενέβησαν μέλη της ΥΚΑΝ που τον συνέλαβαν.
Στην κατάθεσή του ο 35χρονος είχε πει «πως έφτασε στην Κύπρο προκειμένου να παραλαμβάνει πακέτα με ναρκωτικά και να τα παραδίδει σε άγνωστά του άτομα έναντι αμοιβής 1000 ευρώ για κάθε παράδοση».
Υποστήριξε ακόμη «πως αντιμετώπιζε οικονομικά προβλήματα και γι’ αυτόν τον λόγο αποδέχθηκε να έχει ρόλο ενδιάμεσου».
12-Year Sentence for Man in Cyprus for Cannabis Smuggling
A 35-year-old American man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison by the Larnaca Permanent Criminal Court for importing 18 kilograms of cannabis into Cyprus. The man pleaded guilty to charges of importing and supplying narcotics, as well as impersonation. The drugs, consisting of 30 packages of cannabis, were found in a container that arrived at a private company in Larnaca on May 19, 2025, putting the Drug Enforcement Agency on alert. The defendant was the recipient of the drugs and was called to pick them up. When he picked up the container on May 25, he was arrested by members of the YKAN. In his statement, the 35-year-old said he had come to Cyprus to pick up packages of drugs and deliver them to unknown individuals for a fee of 1000 euros per delivery. He claimed he was facing financial problems and therefore agreed to act as an intermediary. The case highlighted the organized effort to import drugs into Cyprus and the effective action of the YKAN in combating drug trafficking.
