The Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Alexis Vafeades, will inform the Larnaca City and Province Development Committee on Friday, February 20th, about the results of the Hellenic Fund's study regarding the development of the city's port and marina. Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras stated that the update will be provided during an emergency meeting at 3 pm and will be followed by a discussion of crucial importance for the progress of the projects. The Minister will present the proposal of Prosperity Group for the revitalization of the project, the results of the Fund's study, and the available options, as well as the answer to the Municipality's proposal for the creation of a team to monitor schedules. The meeting is expected to take place with responsibility, documentation, and a willingness to cooperate, with the city and its citizens' best interests in mind. The meeting comes after strong dissatisfaction from the committee regarding delays in delivering the study and establishing timelines. The Municipality of Larnaca has expressed its concerns in a letter to the Minister of Transport and has requested the consideration of the revitalization proposal from the Kition Consortium, as well as clear timelines for the completion of the study, public consultation, and project implementation. Furthermore, the Municipality requests the creation of a working group involving representatives from the Municipality and the Larnaca Provincial Self-Government Organization, which will monitor the progress of implementation and intervene in any deviations from the established schedules. The whole process is expected to be a turning point for the development of the port and marina of Larnaca.
