Supreme Court Rejects Appeal to Cancel Arrest Warrant in Domestic Violence Case

The Supreme Court of Cyprus has rejected an appeal to cancel an arrest warrant issued for offenses of domestic violence and violence against women. The appeal was submitted by the accused, who argued that there was no reasonable suspicion of committing the offenses and that his arrest was unnecessary. The court ruled that reasonable suspicion existed, based on the complainant's testimony describing several incidents of violence, as well as the seriousness of the offenses under investigation, including assault causing bodily harm. Furthermore, the court emphasized that the issuance of an arrest warrant may be justified to safeguard the course of the investigation and protect witnesses.
